SATCOM-on-the-MOVE (SOTM)

The user experience of high-speed train passengers wrt. internet access using WLAN has improved significantly in the past few years, in particular in densely populated regions. Through the use of multi-channel LTE-routers, both data throughput as well as network availability could be improved drastically. However, for assuring LTE-connectivity along the tracks, network operators have to spend enormous sums and in rural areas with low data traffic, they would never be profitable. Therefore, as a complementary technology for train connectivity, SOTM-terminals may be the solution for regions with a lack of cellular infrastructure.
